It was a second league appearance for the teenager, who made his first league appearance in a 1-0 loss to Richards Bay FC a week prior.
Speaking to the media after the match, Johnson was asked if he believed the highly-rated 18-year-old was ready to start a match.
"That depends on the tactics for the next opponent,” responded Johnson.
"[It also depends on] How we see him in doing the best he can in order to make the team succeed. But he is a good player; he will start.”
Amakhosi legend Jabu Mahlangu also took to social media platform Instagram to give his seal of approval.
"For me, Mfundo Vilakazi, his (he’s) a proper Kaizer Chiefs material and he needs to [play] every game,” Mahlangu wrote.
