Borussia Dortmund grabbed the advantage in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening.
The host went for the same eleven that put Atletico Madrid to the sword in the return-leg of the quarter-finals, with Kylian Mbappe flanked by Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha on the side of PSG.
Dortmund showed the earlier intentions and had Gianluigi Donnarumma come off his line to thwart Julian Brandt profiting from a tight angle.
The match took somewhat of a while to get going but the host surged in front ten minutes to halftime after Niclas Fullkrug broke through the lines to get in on the near side and finished.
Injury forced the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions to a substitution four minutes before the break as Lucas Hernandez were removed for youngster Lucas Beraldo.
Dortmund, meanwhile, looked keen to add to the tally shortly to the interval from a half-volley by Marcel Sabitzer following a loose ball, but Donnarumma pulled off a fine save.
The Bundesliga were living on the edge following the break and saw Mbappe denied by the post following a curler before Achraf Hakimi had the rebound come off the upright too.
Dortmund became widely awake in light of the scary moment as Jadon Sancho failed to double their lead when he nodded over from a ball in the danger area.
Luis Enrique’s men continued to grow and threatened again when a telling ball in-behind from Mbappe set Dembele in for a shot, but Gregor Kobel got down and parried.
Dembele was in again within the closing exchanges from a low square delivery right in the danger area, but he went well over target from close-range.
The Black and Yellow were able to run down the final stages and collected the win with the second-leg set for next week in Paris.
