Liverpool crashed out of the UEFA Europa League in the quarter-finals after losing 3-1 on aggregate to Serie A side Atalanta.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp made three changes from the defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Trent Alexander Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo recalled to the line-up.

Klopp's en got the start they wanted when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty after just seven minutes after Alexander-Arnold's cross struck the arm of Matteo Ruggeri.

The visitors went close to finding a second goal after Cody Gakpo did well flick on Andrew Robertson's cross into the path of Nunez, however Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso rushed off his line to make the save.

Liverpool's comeback was nearly ended just before the interval when Teun Koopmeiners fired one past Alisson Becker, however the goal was ruled out for an offside on the Atalanta forward.

The Premier League outfit managed to carve out another chance shortly after the break, as Gakpo combined with Szoboszlai before playing in Mohamed Salah, who was brilliantly denied by Juan Musso.

That proved to be Salah's final major involvement, as the Egyptian along with Nunez and  Szoboszlai made way for Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot.

Despite the flurry of changes made by the visitors, they were unable to carve out any clear-cut openings at Musso's goal as Atalanta book their spot in the final four.

Klopp's charges will now focus their attention on Sunday's Premier League clash against Fulham, as they look to keep their title hopes alive with six games left to play.
