Manchester United let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Sevilla in their UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg on Thursday night.

Casemiro was back in the side for the first time since his sending off against Southampton last month, while French duo Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane were recalled.

Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was called into action in the 12th minute to produce a fine save at his near post to keep out Antony's stinging effort from in the box.

However, Bounou was helpless two minutes later when Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring with a left-footed strike after latching onto Bruno Fernandes' neat through-ball.

United got their second goal on 20 minutes when Sabitzer completed his brace with another composed left-footed finish, although this time he was played in by Martial.

Sevilla had shown glimpses of their attacking foray in the first half, with the home side also guilty of giving the ball away latter in the latter stages of the half.

The LaLiga side almost got a goal back on the stroke of halftime through Tanguy Kouassi, who met Ivan Rakitic's cross with a powerful header but David de Gea showed great reflexes to keep out the effort.

The Red Devils went agonisingly close to grabbing a third goal in the 60th minute when Antony saw his curling effort crash against the crossbar with Bounou well beaten.

With Sevilla slowly getting into the clash, Ten Hag refreshed his stall and threw on Wout Weghorst, Christian Eriksen and Anthony Elanga with just under 30 minutes left on the clock.

The Spanish side did give themselves some hope when Jesus Navaz's cross deflected took a deflection off Tyrell Malacia and sailed in at De Gea's near post.

Sevilla got their equaliser in second half stoppage time via another own goal, as Youssef En-Nesyri's header, which was going off target, hit Harry Maguire and sailed into the back of the net, as the encounter is level pegging heading to second leg in Seville next week.
