Pyramids secured a 3-2 aggregate win, having drawn 1-1 with the Brazilians in the first leg of the tie in South Africa. In the return leg in Cairo, Sundowns enjoyed superior ball possession, but Krunoslav Jurcic's side ultimately emerged victorious on the night.
Despite the success under challenging circumstances, prominent Egyptian football figure Maged Samy expressed dissatisfaction with his home team's style of play.
The former president of Wadi Degla SC is said to have slammed Pyramids, describing their approach as outdated and lacking in modern tactics.
"Yes, Pyramids won the championship, but honestly, the football they play has disappeared from the world," Samy said according to Elbalad.
