Teko Modise has called time on his career at the age of 36 and snl24.com/kickoff takes a trip down memory lane to look back at the player's fantastic career.
September 2001: Modise made his debut in the PSL as a teenager for Ria Stars, featuring in a 1-1 draw with Wits University (now Bidvest Wits).
March 2006: After Ria Stars were defuncted, Modise dropped down to the National First Division and ended in the colours of City Pillars and is best remembered for his performance against Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Cup, though they were knocked out.
May 2006: He won the National First Division player of the season.
August 2006: After impressing for Pillars in the First Division, Modise was signed by Pitso Mosimane to join SuperSport United, making a return to top flight football.
May 2007: His star was beginning to rise and he made his debut for the senior national team in the COSAFA Cup, in a match against Malawi. Modise scored his first international goal in the same comeptition against Mauritius as Bafana went on to win the tournament.
July 2007: After one season with Matsatsantsa, Modise signed with
Jan 2008: Modise was named in Carlos Alberto Parreira's Africa Cup of Nations squad which played in Ghana. Bafana finished bottom of Group D without a victory.
May 2008: He had an impressive first season with the Buccaneers and was rewarded the PSL Footballer of the Season, the first time this award was handed out. Pirates finished second in the league, behind Modise's former side SuperSport.
July 2008: Modise formed part of the Pirates side that won the Telkom Charity Cup under the tutelage of Dutchman Ruud Krol.
May 2009: He retained the PSL Footballer of the Season award after another impressive campaign with the Buccaneers.
June 2009: He was selected in Joel Santana's FIFA Confederations Cup squad, as they reached the semifinals of the competition, only to be knocked out by eventual champions Brazil. He was named named man of the match in the opening match against Iraq.
July 2009: Modise won the Telkom Charity Cup with Pirates for a second consecutive year.
May 2010: Modise made his 50th appearance for the senior national team against Bulgaria, becoming the 27th player to reach the feat. A few days later he scored his 10th international goal, in a match against Colombia.
June 2010: Modise was a key man for Bafana and it came as no surprise when he was selected for the FIFA World Cup, hosted on South African soil. He played all the matches as Bafana were knocked out in the first round.
September 2010: Despite playing in previous rounds, the midfielder was left out of Pirates' MTN8 final squad after a fallout with Krol as Pirates went on to beat Moroka Swallows on penalties.
January 2011: After three-and-a-half years with Pirates, Modise joined rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. He was unveiled with Themba Zwane at a press conference in Chloorkop.
July 2013: Before the start of the 2013/2014 campaign, Modise was stripped off the captain's armband as coach Mosimane wanted him to focus more on his game. Alje Schut was given the armband.
May 2014: Many believed Modise was "cursed" due to the fact that he was not winning much silverware with his clubs, but that finally ended when he lifted the Absa Premiership title with Sundowns, the first of two with the club.
May 2015: Modise won the Nedbank Cup with the Brazilians and was named the tournament's best player, while also walking away with the Absa Premiership midfielder of the season award.
December 2015: Modise won his first and only Telkom Knockout title when Sundowns beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 in the final played in Durban.
January 2016: Sundowns offered Modise a new two-year contract, rewarding him for his good performances
November 2016: Modise and Sundowns won the biggest competition in African football when they beat Zamalek in the final to lift the CAF Champions League title.
December 2016: Modise traveled with Sundowns to Japan to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup. He did not feature, though, in Sundowns' two matches.
January 2017: Modise won another African title with Sundowns, this time the CAF Super Cup as Sundowns beat Confederation Cup champions TP Mazembe at Loftus Stadium.
June 2017: A six-and-a-half year spell with Sundowns came to an end, as Modise went in search of more game time before calling it quits. He joined ambitious outfit Cape Town City.
September 2017: Just a few months after joining City, Modise was in the MTN8 final, but they lost to his former side SuperSport.
September 2018: Modise won his first and only piece of silverware with City, when they beat SuperSport on penalties to clinch the MTN8 title.
May 2019: The former Bafana international called time on his career, bring and end to one of the most incredible stories in South African football.
