Following the surprise signing of Keagan Dolly, new TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has revealed an ultimatum he gave the Westbury-born attacker before he could put pen to paper.

Dolly was without a club since his contract was not renewed by Kaizer Chiefs at the end of June.

The midfielder came close to linking up with SuperSport United during the off-season, after a deal was agreed in principle and he also passed his medical.

However, he could not officially become a Matsatsantsa player, with Gavin Hunt having to choose between him and Vincent Pule, whom he spent four years with at Bidvest Wits.

Dolly was given another opportunity to train with SuperSport last month, but his fortunes changed after he started to train with The Rockets prior to and during the FIFA break.

Beganovic has revealed that it was not a foregone conclusion Galaxy were going to sign the 31-year-old, until he had a tête-à-tête with him.

"When he came to us, he trained a couple of days. The Chairman [Tim Sukazi] said, 'We have Keagan Dolly at training'. I said, 'Are you serious!?' I know him when he played for Chiefs. When I saw him when we analysed Chiefs, I said he's an amazing player," Beganovic said in an interview on 947's MSW.

"He trained one day, second day and third day I wanted to talk with him, one against one. I said, 'Okay, Dolly, I'm so happy you're here, but I need to be honest with you, I know you're maybe the biggest player in South Africa, you played for Sundowns, Chiefs, in France also, you have an amazing career.

"'[But] you need to understand we're a small club, with young players. If you can put your ego down and if you want to help this group of players, you have an opportunity to stay here'. And I'm surprised he said, 'Coach, I understand everything, I want [to play]. I know my fitness is not on top level, but how we work, train, I know soon I'll be ready for 90 minutes," the Bosnia and Herzegovina coach revealed.

The former Amakhosi star made his debut for Galaxy on Tuesday, coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes in a 3-1 Betway Premiership win over Sekhukhune United.
