TS Galaxy defender Given Msimango shared his delight at being nominated for the Defender of the Season award in the DStv Premiership while admitting to being proud of the achievement.

Msimango was a mainstay for the Rockets this past season and his performances have caught the attention of Kaizer Chiefs, who he has reportedly agreed to join next season.

The skipper put his good campaign down to a lot of 'hard work' ahead of the term, including a trip to Turkey.

"Firstly, thank you so much. It's a wonderful achievement to be nominated.

"To be honest, I never really thought about it until the season ended when I started hearing people talking about it that's only when it came to mind when I saw the news that I'm part of the three to be nominated. I felt proud of the achievement," Msimango told Radio 2000 Sport Show.

"That's a huge achievement, to be honest, a lot of hard work was put into the season at the beginning – during the pre-season of course even the trip to Turkey as well demanded a lot from us as a team but it was good preparation," he added.

Having started and played all his team's matches this season, Msimango credits the consistency to the right mindset and a clean lifestyle more than anything.

"The body and mind were ready for the season, and everything else just fell into place, with God managing to protect me from injuries. I never had any injuries this season, so it shows if you're consistent.

"If you work hard and pray, and live healthy then God will reward you. I'm very happy he rewarded me with an injury-free season and helped the team to achieve what it has achieved this season," Msimango said.
