Former star Sibusiso Vilakazi has reportedly laid a grievance with the South African Football Players Union [Safpu] against DStv Premiership side TS Galaxy regarding a financial dispute.

According to the union's secretary Nhlanhla Shabalala, the Mpumalanga-based club has defaulted on their payments after failing to honour the player's contract.

"We have served TS Galaxy with a letter of demand for Sibusiso Vilakazi," Shabalala tells KickOff.

"They terminated in January, there was a settlement agreement, but the team did not honour it.

"The team felt he will exercise discretion on his part, and indeed he did for two months.

"They paid him after two months the first instalment. But up to date, they have not really honoured the rest of the contract.

"He feels that it's enough and he needs to really take the justice route and from there we will just refer the matter to the PSL.

"We will most likely get his money from there, his contract with Galaxy was left with six months.

"It always creates a problem when teams don't speak upfront about the challenges that they are facing.

"At the end of the day as much as you honoured my contract whilst I was still a player for you, you still have a financial and a legal obligation to pay me my dues as per our agreement.

"This thing of chasing clubs on things that we have agreed to is becoming fashionable on the part of the clubs.

"And this thing put players in a dilemma. The team could have paid the money as per the settlement agreement."
