Sukazi: I want a very strong Chiefs

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi appears to have given his blessings for Kaizer Chiefs to open talks with his head coach, Sead Ramovic.

Reports emerged last week that Chiefs had identified Ramovic as one of the candidates for their head coach position and were in the process of holding talks with the Serb-German tactician.

With the current season almost over, Amakhosi are under pressure to announce the new head coach, with interim head coach Cavin Johnson set to vacate the position ahead of the new campaign.

The Soweto giants would not want the speculation over a new coach to extend much into the off-season, as that affects player acquisitions and squad audit, among other things.

That said, Chiefs are believed to have intensified efforts to finally announce a new coach ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Sukazi, without mincing his words, has backed his coach, Ramovic, to succeed at the Soweto giants and seems to have opened the door for formal negotiations.

"If you're alluding to the rumour of Kaizer Chiefs or something like that, which is a rumour, I have not spoken to them," Sukazi said on Metro FM Sports.

"I also read the rumours. Should it happen, I don't know if it will happen, I don't know what's their criteria, what they are looking for, I cannot advise Kaizer Chiefs, obviously."

"But should such an approach in relation to that come to my desk, my wish and what I want for this country is for a strong Kaizer Chiefs, a very strong Kaizer Chiefs.

"Sundowns has become strong, so is Pirates. Yes, we beat them this weekend, but this team of Pirates is probably the best I've seen in recent times, in many years, in 10 years even.

"So, I want a strong Kaizer Chiefs. I know what Ramovic can do, if that would extend the blessing to South African football. If that approach comes and in my view ... it is my view ... I do believe that it could be the turnaround for the biggest institution, the flagship of South African football.

"I know he will bring them success, I know he will bring them a trophy," Sukazi added.

Petro de Luanda head coach Alexandre Santos and Pitso Mosimane are reportedly the leading candidates, pending availability and affordability, according to Soccer Laduma, although Ramovic is believed to be among the coaches on Amakhosi's list of targets.
