PLK City star back on track after Pirates, Downs interest

Polokwane City have received a timely boost as an Orlando Pirates target has recovered from injury.

Rise and Shine were firmly in the top four positions for the better part of the end of last year and into 2025, before injuries to Thabang Matuludi and Tlou Nkwe in February. The side has struggled without their regular right-back and left-back.

Word that has reached the KickOff.com desk is that Matuludi has returned to training after he recovered from his knee injury, following a successful surgery and rehabilitation.

However, it is understood the 26-year-old is only doing light training and it remains to be seen if he could regain his match fitness before end of season, with Phuti Mohafe's charges left with five games.

Prior to the injury, the speedy wingback was on the radar of Pirates, while Mamelodi Sundowns had also shown interest, although this publication is informed no formal approaches have been made yet.

This website can also exclusively reveal that Matuludi had also attracted interest from German Bundesliga 2 club Nürnberg, who cooled off their approaches following his injury.

City have struggled badly without their regular wingsbacks, dropping to sixth on the standings after suffering four losses in their last five league matches, including back-to-back defeats to The Buccaneers and Sekhukhune United.

The latter loss last Saturday was particularly damaging, as Babina Noko opened a six-point buffer in third position and have the upper hand in the race to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

City's next encounter is against relegation-threatened SuperSport United at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
