Durban City's shock decision for next match

Grieving club Durban City FC have made a surprising decision regarding their upcoming Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture against Pretoria Callies, scheduled for Friday.

Uncertainty surrounded the match following the passing of Durban City defender Sinamandla Zondi this week.

Zondi tragically collapsed during a warm-up ahead of Tuesday's encounter against Milford FC at the same stadium.

He was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, leading to the match being abandoned at half-time once the club was informed of the devastating news.

Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, currently leads the standings with 46 points from 25 matches.

A victory against Callies on Friday would be a huge leap towards a return to the elite division.

Orbit College FC are in close second with 43 points from 26 games.

The League offered the KZN-based side the option of having the match postponed, but the club chose to honour the fixture.

In memory of 'Sgora', as the player was affectionately known, a moment of silence will be observed before the start of Motsepe Foundation Championship and Betway Premiership fixtures this weekend.
