Aaron Mokoena's daughter carves a path of her own

It seems the apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree, as former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena’s daughter is fast becoming a recognised music star across the continent. Here’s a closer look!

The Story

Ghana-based star Chayuta is the daughter of former South African footballer Aaron Mokoena.

Mokoena needs no introduction to South African football fans. He is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest exports, having made over 120 appearances in the Premier League, along with successful stints in Belgium and the Netherlands.

In addition to earning more than 100 caps for Bafana Bafana, Mokoena also famously captained the national team during the historic 2010 FIFA World Cup — the first ever hosted on South African soil and on the continent.

His daughter, Chayuta, is now carving out a name for herself. Born Layla Mpho Mokoena, the young singer is a rising star in the Afrobeats scene, blending Ghanaian and South African influences in her music.

Her discography includes hits such as “Tonight”, “Fiesta”, and “Gimme Love”, the latter featuring Grammy-winner D’Wayne Wiggins.

Chayuta embraces her South African heritage and recently expressed excitement about connecting with local audiences and exploring the country’s culture during media appearances this year.

With her unique sound and cross-cultural appeal, Chayuta is poised to become a major figure in the African music industry.
