The manager of Moroccan giants RS Berkane has reiterated his comments about Stellenbosch FC, insisting he has been proven right in saying the South African side would go far in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Stellenbosch arguably pulled off the biggest upset of this season’s Confederation Cup after progressing to the semi-finals at the expense of defending champions Zamalek SC.
Stellies advanced with a 1-0 aggregate win — a result made even more impressive by the fact that this is the Cape Town club’s debut season in the tournament.

While some may not have given Steve Barker’s side much of a chance to reach this stage, RS Berkane boss Moine Chaabani says he was one of the first to predict that Stellenbosch would do well in the competition.
RS Berkane were drawn in the same group as Stellenbosch during the group stage, and speaking after Stellies defeated Zamalek, Chaabani was pleased to note he has been proven right.
“If you remember, you told me that the Malian side [Stade Malien] was more likely to qualify, but I told you that Stellenbosch are a very good team," Chaabani said, according to El Botola.
“I told you back then that Stellenbosch would qualify (beyond the group stage), and today you’ve seen that football isn’t played on paper, there’s no winner until the match is played.”
Stellenbosch will meet Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC in the semi-finals, while RS Berkane are set to face CS Constantine of Algeria later this month.
