Zamalek fan 'dies' after Stellenbosch loss

In a tragic event, a devoted Zamalek supporter has reportedly passed away after the team's 1-0 upsetting loss to Stellenbosch in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday night.

The outcome in Egypt meant the White Knights were knocked out of the tournament following a goalless stalemate in the first leg last week at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

Shortly after the match in Cairo, reports emerged indicating that one of the fans passed away due to a heart attack.

As reported by Mes7at.com, a host of the Zamalek Club TV program, Ahmed Ali, stated that a man identified as Ali Shawky was declared dead after the match.

"Fan Ali Shawky died after the end of the match between Zamalek and Stellenbosch due to a heart attack and sadness due to the loss and exit from the Confederation Cup," Ali said, per Mes7at.com.

Zamalek's defeat came as a shock to their supporters as they appeared to view the Cape Winelands team as the underdogs due to Steve Barker's side being newcomers in the tournament.
