Monica Geuze, a Dutch media personality, recently expressed her desire to change the surname of her six-year-old daughter, Zara-Lizzy, who currently bears the Veldwijk surname through her footballer father.
Geuze and Veldwijk separated several years ago, and she has now voiced her frustration with the Dutch tradition of children automatically receiving their father's surname.
Speaking to Mama Magazine, a Dutch parenting publication, Geuze said: “The only thing you are 100 percent sure of is that your child came from you.
"Being the mother is absolutely certain.
“These days, the process has to go through the justice system, where you have to provide proof of your separation from the father on paper and demonstrate that you’ve been raising your child on your own for at least five years.”
Meanwhile, Veldwijk—whose last appearance for Bafana Bafana came in 2019—currently plays for Gulf United FC in the second tier of Emirati football.
