Pyramids table 'R74m' offer for Downs & Bucs slayer

Following their CAF Champions League triumph, Pyramids FC have reportedly wasted no time in making a new contract offer to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns slayer Fiston Mayele.

The Sky Blues clinched their first-ever continental title by defeating Sundowns 3-2 on aggregate in the two-legged final, having drawn 1-1 in the first leg and winning 2-1 in the second.

Mayele was instrumental throughout the campaign. He scored twice against Pirates in the semi-finals and found the net in the final against Sundowns. His nine goals in the tournament earned him the Champions League Golden Boot.

Beyond his continental exploits, Mayele also made a significant impact in the Egyptian Premier League, helping Pyramids FC secure a second-place finish. He has also played a key role in helping the club to reach the Egypt Cup final, where they will face Zamalek SC.

According to Egyptian journalist Khaled El-Ghandour, Pyramids have submitted an initial offer to Mayele’s camp, reportedly valued between $3 million and $4 million (R55 million to R74 million) per season.

"Mayele's career with Pyramids FC will end at the end of the current season. The player will leave after the Zamalek and Pyramids match in the Egypt Cup final," El-Ghandour said per Almasryalyoum.

"Mayele has received incredible offers, offers exceeding $3 million (R55 million) and reaching $4 million (R74 million) per season.

"The player is receiving $1 million per season from Pyramids, but he completely refuses to continue," he added.

"Pyramids Club, in appreciation of the player and the fact that he is the top scorer in the African Champions League and was one of the reasons the team won the championship."

Furthermore, the Congolese forward had previously been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and even confirmed holding discussions with Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi regarding a potential move.

With speculation mounting over a possible exit at the end of the season, all eyes are now on Mayele’s next move, should he decide not to accept the offer from Pyramids FC.
