TS Galaxy striker Bernard Parker, who is back at training, has provided an indication of when he could return to competitive action following a career-threatening injury in the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout.

The 36-year-old's career was thought to be all but over when he suffered a horrific injury from Mamelodi Sundowns' Bongani Zungu, during the two team's clash in October.

However, following successful surgery, Parker is back on the grass and although he is limited to light individual training, he is looking forward to returning to competitive action.

"Basically according to the doctors and also with the sports scientists' view is that it's up to myself how quick I can get back," Parker said at the club's media day ahead of their semi-final clash against AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout.

They predicted that I will be back in February, maybe late March, but it will all depend on me, how seriously I am taking my recovery, which I am.Bernard Parker on when he could possibly return to action

"I hope to be around that time or maybe soon, I don't know, but I would like to take my time so that I can get back stronger and then better as a player and also help the team finish off the season in a respectable position.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will take a break in January as the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) commences in Morocco. This will be an ample opportunity to regain fitness, added Parker.

"It's a blessing in disguise that the Afcon is happening now in January and the league will still be on recess, It actually gives me more time in terms of recovery and also what time for the team as well in terms of pressing the reset buttons and preparing much longer for the second round of the season," Parker said.

"We have been playing very good football we have been very energetic. In our games we use a lot of energy, our game is so physical and we tend to not get the results so it's a good way for us to reflect, on where we can improve and where we can fix as well.

"For me, I'm just happy that I'm among the guys this during these times and I'm just here to give the best they can to the team."

TS Galaxy take on Usuthu at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the semi-final of the Carling Knockout on Sunday. Kick-off is at 15:30.
