BREAKING: TS Galaxy off the hook from FIFA 'handcuffs'

By Lovemore Moyo

The world's football governing body – FIFA – will have TS Galaxy as the next South African club having 'handcuffs off their wrists' following the latest developments.

This will then leave Royal AM as the only club still 'locked up'.

Galaxy had an unpleasant feel of the FIFA-imposed transfer ban effect when they found themselves unable to use any of their 10 new signings for the MTN8 trip to Stellenbosch FC on Sunday after failing to register them with the PSL.

With the ban, the PSL is under instruction from FIFA to block any new player registration, and the consequence of this was that The Rockets only had five players on the bench.

Tim Sukazi's club has signed Seth Osei (Hapoel Kfar Saba, Israel), Victor Letsoalo (AmaZulu FC), Ntiyiso Bombi (Baroka), Qobolwakhe Sibande (Stellenbosch), Thamsanqa Masiya (Sekhukhune United), Jegbay Morris (Mighty Barolle, Liberia), Siphesihle Maduna (Cape Town Spurs), Khulumani Ndamane (Kaizer Chiefs) and Emmanuel Seih (Watanga FC, Liberia).

They also have Ivorian keeper Ira Tape Eliezer earmarked as replacement for Fiacre Ntwari, who has moved to Chiefs.

This website can now confirm that Galaxy will walk free in the next couple of hours with their transfer ban lifted after the payment that they initiated on Friday finally reached the recipients on Tuesday.

They will get a letter to this effect from Zurich this week.

Then when FIFA next does its next weekly updates on transfer bans on Monday, TS Galaxy's name will not be there anymore.

Galaxy's ban came in the matter relating to Ivorian striker Bernard Yao Kouassi - whose legal representatives will give FIFA the greenlight to lift the ban now that payment has reflected in the relevant bank account.

The Sead Ramovic-coached club had a three-window ban (since June 12) imposed following a contract dispute involving USD98 000 (approx. R1,8 million).

FIFA ruled in Kouassi's favour, but Galaxy appealed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where the world governing body's award was upheld.

Faced with no further appeal process, Galaxy have now settled the bill, which will allow for the ban to be unlocked.

Kouassi signed with Galaxy on January 17, 2023 but left bitter without playing after he wasn't registered, which led to him filing a case with FIFA.

Prior to approaching the world governing body, Kouassi had asked for two months' salary to settle the matter but will now get a lot more, including the 5% per annum interest on the bill.

With Richards Bay FC and JDR Stars having complied by paying their dues, this leaves Royal AM as the only active club still under sanctions in matters relating to Samir Nurkovic and Ricardo Nascimento.

Nurkovic's matter – which involves millions of rands with an annual 5% interest charged – has dragged to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where a second deadline of September 13 has been placed for the issuing of the decision.

Nascimento's case remains unresolved despite Royal AM claiming for weeks that they have settled the issue with the Brazilian.
