Nabi keen on new key addition

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has raised his concerns about the area that he believes needs strengthening before the close of the current transfer window.

Nabi has now spent a month at Chiefs after joining the club during their pre-season camp in Turkey.

Through that time, Nabi has assessed the quality and options that he will have in seeking to improve the fortunes of this team.

What has become concerning is the tip of his attacking third.

This is where Chiefs currently have Ranga Chivaviro, Christian Saile Basomboli, Ashley Du Preez and the rising Wandile Duba, with Gaston Sirino also capable of playing as a false nine depending on the system used.

Chivaviro had four goals last season, which was the same as what Saile got, with Du Preez on six, while Duba scored once.

This meant 15 goals from the frontline, which was four goals less than the 19 that Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa scored on his own.

Looking through these numbers is the reason why Nabi feels he needs another number nine option that will hopefully give him double numbers.

Fiston Mayele – the man who scored goals for Nabi at Young Africans – will be difficult to get from Pyramids, where he is scoring goals in the Egyptian Premier League.

Nabi is busy behind the scenes using his contacts across the continent and beyond in a bid to bring in another striker, which will mean the club's foreign quota is reshuffled again.

Chiefs already have Fiacre Ntwari (Rwanda), Thatayaone Ditlhokwe (Botswana), Edmilson Dove (Mozambique), Edson Castillo (Venezuela) and Saile (DR Congo) as their foreign five.

Fortunate for Nabi is that he will only be put to test in official games from September 14 when Chiefs get their Betway Premiership campaign underway.

The transfer window will then close on September 20, after which their proposed fixtures list had them playing Stellenbosch FC (September 22), AmaZulu FC (September 25), Mamelodi Sundowns (September 28) and SuperSport United (October 26).
