The England international does not appear to be Guardiola's first choice keeper at the club with Willy Caballero the preferred pick at the moment.
A recent report has linked Hart with a move to either Sevilla or Everton, however, nothing concrete has been confirmed as yet.
The goalkeeper seemingly does not have good enough footwork to play the ball out from the back as Guardiola wishes.
The Spaniard said he is willing to work on Hart's ability to play with his feet but added that there wasn't much time to do this.
He said, "He has to be able to play with the ball. He has to help us to create a good build-up. We are not an academy with time. Here we have time - but not too much."
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach added that the player could leave if he wanted to although the option was there for him to stay, "I don't want players to stay if they don't want. If they want to stay, stay and we will fight together."
