One of the most promising footballers in France has been sacked by his club after stealing his teammates R1.2 million watch from the changing room.
Lamine Diaby Fadiga, 18, has been sacked by OGC Nice after admitting that he stole the watch of the club's marquee off-season signing, Kasper Dolberg.
The Denmark international joined the ambitious Ligue 1 club in August from Ajax Amsterdam in a deal worth a reported €20.5 million but has now made headlines in France for a rather bizarre reason.
It was claimed this week that Dolberg's 'luxury' watch valued at €70,000 had gone missing from the changing room and Nice have since released an official statement on the incident.
"OGC Nice and Lamine Diaby Fadiga parted ways," the club revealed.
"Following the theft of Kasper Dolberg's watch from the professional first team's changing room, and the subsequent admission of the player, the club decided to cancel its contract with the 18-year-old forward with immediate effect.
"Above and beyond all sporting and financial consideration, Nice cannot and will not accept such behaviour that betrays the confidence that unites all the club's employees and all the members of the Rouge et Noir [Red and Black] family."
Fadiga who graduated from the club's academy in 2017 has represented France at U16, 17 and 18 level.
