Khan: 'SAFA should be blamed'

Farouk Khan believes allowing coaches who are without qualifications to coach in the Dstv Premiership is devaluating the standard of the Premier Soccer League.

Though he holds only a Safa D license, Chippa United caretaker coach Morgan Mammila has been doing wonders in the short time that he has overseen the club by not only winning but also by playing scintillating football.

"A number of years ago we were told by Safa when we did the professional license, Pitso Mosimane, Steve Khompela, myself, I think we were about over 30 coaches, and then they did another course [Safa] similarly for about another 30 coaches, Cavin Johnson, Rhulani Mokwena went there," Khan tells KickOff.

"Specifically, it's a standard in place that if you don't have a Pro- license you cannot coach a PSL team.

"For some reason, Safa has not instituted it yet, in all fairness it is not only coach Mammila, there are other coaches.

"But until such time, if we don't get a certain qualification as a requirement, it will allow anybody to coach in the PSL.

"Which will then mean you don't need a qualification, why is Eric Tinkler not allowed to sit on the bench in CAF? Why is that rule in place?

"And until such time South Africa come down on this...I mean it makes a joke out of Safa qualification standard.

"The football federation decides, you can't expect the PSL to decide on that they are not the governing body, they are not the ones giving accreditation, It's Safa.

"Safa must come up with a ruling, it's not coach Mammila's fault so you can't blame him.

"All I'm saying is it is not supposed to be done in this way.

"You must have a certain qualification to coach in the PSL, and until such time, we are devaluating coaching in this country."
