Mokoena: Who does Cardoso think he is?

Teboho Mokoena has not held back in criticizing Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso, accusing him of being overly emotional following his latest comments.

Cardoso has been outspoken about Sundowns' tight schedule, lamenting a lack of support from the League as they navigate different competitions, travelling as far as North Africa.

In the latest outburst, he expressed dissatisfaction with the scheduling of Saturday's league game against Cape Town City, which was initially set for Sunday.

The Portuguese tactician feels the fixture is too close to their match against Richards Bay FC taking place on Wednesday.

Sundowns are fresh off a trip from Egypt, where they beat Al Ahly to advance to the CAF Champions League final.

“Cardoso shouldn’t complain so much. Remember that other teams are also facing the same challenges. He needs to adapt to the fixture schedul. What makes him special?” quizzed Mokoena, who formerly featured for The Brazilians and was also on the books of Jomo Cosmos.

“All clubs in the PSL experience fatigue at this time. It’s not the first time he has played on a Wednesday and then again on a Friday. That’s normal in today’s football landscape.

“Who does he think he is, coming to South Africa and trying to dictate how the PSL should be run? With such a big squad, Sundowns has no room for complaints. He needs to utilise the players who haven’t had much game-time this season.

“So, to Cardoso, I would say: You can’t leave your country and come here to complain in a foreign land.

“Sundowns are professionals. Regardless of how many times they have won the league, they consistently work hard for every achievement.

“I know that Sundowns will not underestimate Richards Bay FC. As professionals, they will be focused and determined. The only team that can beat Sundowns is Sundowns themselves,” he went on.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
