Mkhize slams 'hostile' reception in CAF Confederation Cup defeat

Royal AM owner Shauwn Mkhize has slammed the hostile environment her side was subjected to in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the club's 2-0 CAF Confederation Cup defeat to TP Mazembe.

Royal AM suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Congolese giants TP Mazembe on Wednesday after goals from Ernest Luzolo and Adam Bossu earned the hosts a vital play-off first-leg win at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

AM owner Shauwn Mkhize was left angered by the hostile environment her side was subjected to during the match, however, and took to social media after the match to vent her frustration at alleged irregularities that took place during the encounter.

"Let me tell you about my story today," Mkhize said in a story shared on her official Instagram account. "I have never been in a hostile environment like this. Okay, we were beaten 2-0, it's okay, but there was a time where I felt sorry for my guys. I really felt sorry for my guys.

"I have never ever seen something like this in my entire life. South Africa is such a good country [but] what I have seen today, people getting into the stadium, match commissioner is saying nothing, doing their own thing, interrogating my goalkeeper.

"But anyway, I will tell you all about it. Right now I am under stress, I am glad we are back home and safe, But what I have seen today..."

Royal AM will play host to the five-time African champions next week Wednesday in the second-leg of their play-off tie, with the winner set to progress to the group stage of the competition.

Elsewhere, South Africa's other representatives in the tournament enjoyed differing fortunes after Marumo Gallants suffered a 1-0 away defeat to Libya's Al Ahli Tripoli and Cape Town City were held to a goalless draw at home by Algeria's USM Alger.
