Hugo Broos makes bold AFCON prediction

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo broos believes if his side can maintain their current form than a spot in next year's African Cup of Nations (Afcon) it all but secured.

"I'm satisfied about the camp. We played two games against opponents who will be similar, I think in March, against Liberia so it was a good test," the Belgian coach said.

"I'm sure that with what we showed in these games, and also in the games in September, I'm sure that we will qualify for Afcon because we [showed that] can play good football, we can play modern football."

After losing 2-1 to Morocco in June on Matchday one of the Afcon qualifiers, Bafana now have a mountain to climb to secure their ticket to the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast.

While two wins would be ideal, Broos's men will have to at least avoid defeat over two clashes against Liberia to stand the slimmest of chances for Afcon qualification.

Bafana's chances were also boosted by the FIFA disqualification of groupmates Zimbabwe from the qualifying process due to political interference, among other reasons.

"Kenya and Zimbabwe, suspended for political interference, have not yet met the criteria required by the FIFA Congress as a prerequisite for lifting their suspension," CAF said in May.

Two top teams from the group will earn a ticket to the 2023 Afcon scheduled to take place in January and February 2024. Morocco currently tops the Group K having already collected wins from both South Africa and Liberia respectively.
