According to The Athletic, the Blues have settled on a transfer fee with AS Monaco for central defender Axel Disasi.
The west Londoners are believed to be set to pay €45 million (R874 million) for the four-cap France international as they look to shore up their backline.
Mauricio Pochettino's side suffered a massive blow when it was confirmed recently that Wesley Fofana would be missing a significant part of the campaign due to a knee injury.
Consequently, the side from the English capital have wasted no time in recruiting the 25-year-old, who was heavily linked with United earlier in the transfer window.
However, it seems the Red Devils have lost out on Disasi after they decided to prioritise other positions before attending to centre-backs.
The Red Devils are rumoured to have already agreed a deal for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, and are believed to be keen to sign a midfielder next.

Disasi is now expected to join his former Monaco teammate Benoit Badiashile, who made the move to Chelsea in January, at Stamford Bridge.
