Saudi Pro League boss makes Salah vow

Al-Ittihad president Anmar Al-Haili has made a promise to the supporters after the club failed to sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool a few months ago.

The Saudi Pro League side were heavily linked with a move for Egyptian forward in the last transfer window as they aimed to bring in more high-profile footballers.

Al-Ittihad had already signed Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante and Fabinho in the off-season but they had hope to secure more high-profile players like other teams.

Al-Haili has vowed to reveal the truth about about why the club failed in their pursuit of Salah.

"I remained silent… but I hope to be able to respond soon to what happened in the last week of the summer market regarding Salah, Ramos… and De Bruyne," the club president said in an interview with AS.

Al-Haili also explained why they weren't able to acquire more star names from the European leagues compared to their rivals.

"Ittihad fans have every right to feel upset when they see Al-Nassr signing a player like Laporte and Al-Hilal getting Koulibaly for example," Al-Haili told Asharq Al-Awsat.

"We have the right to ask for players of the same calibre. But we have a limited budget, unlike the other top three clubs who signed eight players while we only got four.

"We had several transfer requests that were not fulfilled by the league's vice president Saad Al-Lazeez. Do you expect the recruitment department to offer us Mbappe and we say no?"
