Downs open 8-point lead with 11th straight win

Mamelodi Sundowns lead Cape Town Spurs 2-0 at halftime in a DStv Premiership clash on Wednesday evening.

Masandawana welcomed back Aubrey Modiba from injury and named on the bench, whilst afforded Denis Onyango, Thapelo Morena, Sipho Mbule, Lebohang Maboe, Lesiba Nku and Abubeker Nasir starts.

Nasir looked to get the opening just after the start of the match but failed to connect with Nku's delivery and saw the chance go abegging.

Masandawana did though go ahead and it came at the midway point where Mbule got space and fired in a superb effort that gave goalkeeper Neil Boshoff no chance.

It was two to the host just past the half-hour mark when Grant Kekana showed sharp instincts right in the opposition penalty area and turned home a loose ball.

Full-back Terrence Mashego could've handed the runaway leaders a third a minute gone with a shot from point-blank range, but Boshoff was on hand to smother him.

Mokwena kept Spurs on their toes with an attacking change at half-time, as Peter Shalulile replaced Nasir.

However, Ernst Middendorp's men were better organized coming from the break and did not allow Sundowns spaces in and around their box, with a compact block.

The Brazilians were happy to knock the ball around in central areas to run down the clock and with 20 minutes to go, 19-year-old Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi  replaced Mbule for fresh legs.

Sundowns waited for their moments going forward and Shalulile made it 3-0 in the last minute with a tap-in at the back post after a cross by Lebohang Maboe.

Masandawana extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points with three games in hand.
