Rayners’ Sundowns contract length revealed

Following revelations that the alleged assault charges facing Iqraam Rayners will not affect his pending move to Mamelodi Sundowns, KickOff has been informed that the deal is now as good as done.

The Brazilians have won the race for the Stellenbosch FC striker's signature, as he was understood to also have been on the radar of other big teams in Gauteng, while there was also interest from North Africa and the Gulf region.

In particular, Pitso Mosimane was keen to bring him over to Abha Club during his time at the helm of the Saudi Pro League side during a 2023/24 season in which they were fighting relegation.

Manqoba Mngqithi, speaking at the post-match press conference following Sundowns' 1-0 MTN8 quarterfinals win over Polokwane City on Sunday, confirmed that the league champions had secured Rayners, alluding to how to instrumental he is going to be in their CAF Champions League campaign that starts in mid-September.

"I am looking at him more for the Champions League than in the PSL. Inasmuch as he will help us in the PSL, but I think in the Champions League he will give us something," said the head coach.

However, the player has since been haunted by an allegation of assault, as revealed by local media, with a patron of a Stellenbosch eatery publicly claiming the Bafana Bafana international physically attacked him.

Considering the timing of this allegation, there were fears the move could be put on hold as the matter is alleged to have happened in the Western Cape, while his new team is based in Gauteng.

Earlier on Wednesday, however, Soccer Laduma reported that the alleged case will have no bearing on the marksman's big-money move to the capital.

This website has since gathered that Rayners has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with The Brazilians, which includes options, according to sources close to Sundowns.

This then paves the way for the highly-rated striker to make the switch, with an announcement by his new club now imminent.
