In this edition of the Secret Footballer, a former player reveals how his career at one of the big clubs was cut short after he refused to take part in a muti ritual.
According to the Secret Footballer, many players are being denied game-time in their clubs not because they are not performing well but due to their refusal to take part in what is known as 'special project'.
"I am coloured, even though I was born in Johannesburg, but muti has never been part of my family," a secret footballer tells KickOff.

"And I know many coloured and white players who couldn't fulfil their childhood dreams of playing for one of the big clubs in South Africa, just because they refused to use muti.
"At one stage, a big team was so interested in me that I almost joined. The negotiations had to be abandoned when my agent informed them that they should include a clause stating that I would be excused from the club's muti rituals as it was against my culture and beliefs.
"I ended up signing with their rivals instead, but even there, I could not stay more than six months.
"A coach there told me straight, I have been instructed not to play you. I was accused of not having teamwork or team spirit or whatever," he added.

"The funny thing is that the club was busy telling the media and the supporters that the reason I was not playing was because I was injured.
"South African clubs rely on muti too much to influence the results of the game. Hence you find coloured players and white players struggling to settle in some teams, especially the players from Cape Town.
"These teams take this muti thing seriously, believe me, they'd rather lose a top player than to stop using muti.
"I know a lot of players who have suffered just because they didn't feel comfortable using muti."
