In this edition of My First, KickOff catches up with former Bidvest Wits and Santos FC star midfielder Marawaan Bantam.
The 46-year-old attacking-midfielder also had some stints at Mpumalanga Black Aces, Cape Town All Stars, and Steenberg United.
My First School:
"Central Park Primary School in Bonteheuwel in Cape Town was named after the famous school in the USA.
"For me, it was very easy to adapt because my grandmother stayed opposite the school. The school's gate was a few footsteps away from my grandmother's place."
My First Kiss:
"It was at high school, and I was like 17 years old. I was into girls when I was in high school [laughs]."
My First Favourite Club:
"Kaizer Chiefs. I was a Chiefs supporter all my life, I was a Chiefs before I moved to Santos.
"It was always my dream to be a Kaizer Chiefs player, but unfortunately it didn't happen. I'm not sure if they were ever interested in my services."
My First Soccer Boots:
"It was a pair of Olympic soccer boots. I was playing for Under-9. I got it from a neighbor because that neighbor could see that I was very good at soccer, so he just gave it to me. I was very impressed with my new pair of soccer boots. If I show my laaities today my Olympic they laugh at me. But at the time, I was just excited to get my first pair of soccer boots."
My First Goal:
"It was against Mamelodi Sundowns at Athlone Stadium. It was during the 2003/2004 Season.
"It was from a cross and I scored with a header. Andre Arendse was in goals at Sundowns at the time. I scored a brace in that match, we beat Sundowns 3-1.
"Me and Thembile "Zane" Kanono scored the goals. He is staying in Bloemfontein now."
My First Red Card:
"I never received one in the PSL only a few yellow cards. Maybe I was disciplined, ha ha ha ha!"
Your First Individual Award:
"Yes, I can still remember my first man of the match award was at Bidvest Wits; it was on the Nedbank Cup. It was against Thanda Royal Zulu at Bidvest Stadium.
"I received my green Nedbank Cup jacket, and I still have it in my cupboard."
My First Trophy With A Club:
"It was when Santos won the Top 8, even though I wasn't in the squad and never played in the Top 8 that season, I still received my winner's medal, that was in Rustenburg, and we beat Sundowns in the BP Top 8 final [2002]."
My First Car:
"It was a Toyota Yaris, that was the first car I bought out of my pocket. At the time that was one of the latest cars that came out. It cost me about R170 000. That was in 2007.
