Riveiro lauds Pirates star's full tank

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has revealed the secret behind tireless campaigner Deon Hotto's fitness levels and consistent performances in the league this season.

Hotto has been one of the most regular features in the Pirates side, only missing one match so far this season.

The Namibian international has scored six goals and recorded six assists across all competitions during 2024/5.

He has already won the MTN8 with the Soweto giants during the current campaign, and will be a big part of the remainder of the season as Bucs aim for the league title, Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League titles.

Riveiro has hailed Hotto as a true professional both on and off the field, hence his consistent displays in the famous Black and White colours.

"There are two components when you get players like Hotto," explains Riveiro, speaking after the Nedbank Cup Last 16 match against Baroka FC at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

"We have many players with the same genetic and conditional capacities. Deon is one of them.

"Everyone can see it, and it's not only his capacity to run fast but the ability to repeat those runs, again and again, to play 90 minutes every two or three days. He is a true professional.

"In this case, Deon knows how to take care of himself. His life is fully dedicated to the game and that's why hopefully he can continue at this level for a very long period," he continued.

The 34-year-old is set to be in action again when Pirates visit Golden Arrows in a crucial Betway Premiership match against in Hammarsdale on Wednesday.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
