Favourable ref appointment for Pirates?

This is rather rare for a continental club final involving a club familiar from Southern Africa against a team from North Africa.

CAF has appointed Janny Sikazwe to handle the decider at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

This will be the sixth CAF appointment as a match referee this year for the Zambian who has also done duty at the FIFA World Cup, AFCON finals and FIFA Club World Cup.

Running the lines in the final will be the Portuguese-speaking duo of Arsenio Chadreque Maringule from Mozambique and Angolan national Jerson Emiliano Dos Santos.

Joshua Bondo will work as the fourth official.

Mahmoud Ashor of Egypt will be the Video Assistant Referee assisted by fellow countrymen Mahmoud Abouelregal and Mahmoud Elbana.

Sikwaze was in the headlines at the AFCON finals earlier this year for prematurely ending the game between Mali and Tunisia twice following which he later noted that 'God instructed me to terminate the match'.

The Zambian school teacher has over a decade of experience on the international scene.
