Further handicap for Simba ahead of trip to Pirates

Orlando Pirates' CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals opponents Simba will arrive in Johannesburg this week with yet another handicap for the much-awaited decider second leg tie.

Simba carry a slender 1-0 win from the first leg courtesy of a dubious penalty decision.

The odds will be against the Tanzanians who are poor travellers who have only ever won just six games on the road in CAF competitions since 2005.

They have not won away in the Confederation Cup this year with the only time that they drew having been at USGN of Niger in the group stages.

Just last year they were hammered 4-0 by Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals and their away wins in continental competitions have come against opposition as Gendarmerie Nationale of Djibouti, Lengthens of Zimbabwe, Mbabane Swallows from Eswatini, Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana along with Plateau United of Nigeria and Vita Club of DRC.

With their poor form on the road, Simba will be minus their star man Bernard Morrison.

Morrison won the controversial penalty on Sunday and has been the go-to man for Simba for goals and assists on the continent this season.

The Ghana forward remains blacklisted from entering South Africa after transgressing on his work permit while playing in South Africa.

He spent two years at Pirates making 23 appearances and scoring four goals between 2016 and 2018 before being released.

Last year he didn't travel for the CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium which Simba lost 4-0 but then featured in the second leg a week later in Dar es Salaam.

Simba have been making efforts to rectify Morrison's issue over the last couple of weeks without success but are believed to be pursuing the matter again this week.

Morrison is considered an undesirable person in terms of the Immigration Act which can carry a ban of at least five years though individual cases vary.

After being given a day off on Monday, Simba resumed training yesterday (Tuesday) in preparation for the second leg at Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
