Tsotetsi is still reminded of the incredible achievement he and his teammates endured in the Ivory Coast to be crowned champions of Africa after a dramatic 1-0 win over Asec Mimosas.
"Things were not easy in Abidjan, a lot of bad stuff happened in that match," Tsotetsi tells KickOff.
"We conquered Africa as we were desperate to win that game so much, all we wanted was to be the first team from South Africa to win that cup.
"We just wanted to be the best players in Africa obviously, we saw it as a platform to go abroad.
"I think Asec Mimosas were also desperate to win it but through dirty tactics.
"We were about to enter the pitch when their fans threw some white powder and water on us.
"I don't know if it was muti or what but it was itching like hell.
"But besihamba 'namasotsha' that day, you could count on the likes of Jerry Sikhosana, Shoes Lushozi, Helman Mkhalele...Ja nee bengidlala namasotsha laphaya.
"I must admit though during the first half that powder affected me a bit because I kept on asking myself what is this stuff? Is it curable?
"The treatment we got from the hotel was very bad, food was bad, we were served rotten chicken, we ended up eating buns with tea and some of my teammates ate them with fake Coca Cola.
"They tried every trick to make sure we lost focus.
"After the final whistle we couldn't wait to come back home, we even skipped taking a shower, we only took a shower at our hotel, we had to leave the stadium full kitted, boots and so on.
"Even today when I look at the star on the Pirates jersey I become happy, I feel proud to be the first guy to put a star in the Pirates office.
"That star didn't come easy, we fought for it.
"But the unity and trust we had amongst each other as Pirates players that time saw us through."
