Comitis hits out at PSL as FNB shirt sponsorship saga continues

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has hit out at biased guidelines as the Citizen's shirt sponsorship saga against the PSL continues.

The PSL have already issued the Cape side with a fine for the failure to obtain prior approval from the league when concluding the shirt sponsorship deal with banking giant FNB.

"This is a matter that Cape Town City will raise at the next board of governors meeting," Comitis tells KickOff.

"Because if this is how clubs are going to be treated, when they achieve sponsorships, then I'm afraid to say no cooperations will come to the table to sponsor clubs.

"It will become a landscape for the few privileged clubs.

"So, to me, this is something we will have to deal with at the very highest level with the board of governors because the process has been completely outrageous.

"It has also been completely biased against us as a club.

"The fine was issued as we didn't follow the procedure, which to me is a procedure that we are going to challenge as well at the next board of governors.

"The fact that you must bring an unsigned contract - which cooperation, which company will wait for you to get prior permission before they sign it - before they sign an agreement. Nobody does that.

"In the real business world, nobody does that. You sign an agreement, and after signing that agreement, they then approve it.

"So for me, I'm still perplexed with this rule, unfortunately, it exists. And I will certainly be challenging this in the next sitting of the board of governors."
