Chiefs' Du Preez outlines season targets

Striker Ashley Du Preez has outlined his targets for the rest of the season as Amakhosi look to climb back into the top four of the DStv Premiership.

Du Preez ended his debut season for Chiefs as the club's top goalscorer with nine goals and five assists to his name, a total of 14 goal contributions - just one less goal contribution than Cape Town City's Khanyisa Mayo who had 15, with 12 goals and three assists.

The new season has not yielded similar fortunes for the speedy attacker, with injuries costing Du Preez over three months on the sidelines.

Still, the former Stellies man is looking to add to his three goals and two assists when the 2024 calendar year begins.

"My ambition for 2024 is to continue to work hard for the team and get goals to help the team win. I think that's my ambition for 2024, it's to score more goals and help the team win," Du Preez told the club's media.

In his absence, Chiefs have barely missed a step, winning four of their six matches across all competitions, with Pule Mmodi, Christian, Saile and Edson Castillo shouldering the burden of finding the goals.

Du Preez enjoyed a winning return to action as Chiefs defeated Richards Bay 1-0 thanks to a Nkosingiphile Ngcobo goal in what would be a third consecutive victory.

Next for Chiefs is an away clash against Sekhukhune United on Saturday.

"Winning three on the trot, I think in order to maintain that momentum we need to work hard on the training pitch every week," the striker added.

"As a team, we go out on matchday and just give the best performance and get maximum points. So, we can reflect back [on the year] and start the second round very well.

"This week's preparation has been good so far and the mod in the camp has been good and we are ready for the game. What I know about Sekhukhune is that they can play and they like kicking long and paying off the second ball.

Chiefs' match against Sekhukhune will be played at New Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kick-off is at 20:00.
