The reason why Mamelodi Sundowns did not necessarily sign Iqraam Rayners for the PSL but rather for their CAF Champions League exploits could have been revealed.
Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi opened up on the signing of Rayners from Stellenbosch last weekend, after stating that they acquired him particularly for the CAF Champions League and not necessarily for the PSL.

However, Mngqithi did not elaborate on the reasons, with assumptions that he rated the Bafana Bafana striker highly and that perhaps they have enough quality in their attack for challenges in the local game.
The 28-year-old's signing also raised question marks on whether he fits into the Sundowns game of possession and playing in short spaces.
Former Masandawana captain n v Kekana says he also does not see Rayners fitting into the Tshwane side in the PSL, given that most teams in the Betway Premiership play with a low block against the serial champions.
"I don't think in the Premier League he will help them, but in the [CAF] Champions League he's going to help them, that's where you play izintanga zakho [your equals]. They open the pitch," Kekana said on SABC Sport.
"And if you know the style of play of Rayners, he's not a player that plays in short spaces, he likes to break the lines a lot, like Khama Billiat used to play.
"He will struggle a lot when you play against teams with low blocks [in the PSL]. When you play for Sundowns you must be able to play in the short spaces. I don't think Iqraam is a player that can play in short spaces. I think he's a runner, he can break the line, he knows how to score, make no mistake," Kekana added.
At Stellies, Rayners was used to a counter-attacking game and he would need to vary and adapt his game at Masandawana.
