OUT: Plan for Downs striker's latest loan deal

The reasoning behind the fourth loan spell that Etiosa Ighodaro will spend away from Mamelodi Sundowns has been established.

Ighodaro has spent the past three years on loan at University of Pretoria, then Chippa United and SuperSport United.

Prior to that, he was with Sundowns' feeder team M Tigers in the ABC Motsepe League following his arrival from Nigeria.

For the 2024/25 season, the 23-year-old will spend another loan spell at AmaZulu FC.

The initial loan agreement will run until January, by which time he will have become eligible to apply for permanent residence.

This is the avenue that will then pave way for Ighodaro to be finally registered as a Sundowns player.

It is planned that he will then become another option in attack during the second half of the season when the CAF Champions League rolls into the knockout stages.

Ighodaro has previously been linked with several moves to Europe after interest from Belgium and Serbia, but Sundowns didn't sell.

Last season, he scored eight goals at SuperSport, while he had 11 the previous campaign at Chippa.

Following the departure of Augustine Kwem and Victor Letsoalo at AmaZulu, Ighodaro will have fellow West African, Boniface Haba, in attack.

The Guinea forward joined from Moroccan club Olympique Safi, where he has spent the past two years since his exit from Horoya AC.
