In this week's edition of In The Spotlight, KickOff catches up with the legendary striker Jerry 'Legs Of Thunder' Sikhosana.
Growing up, who was your idol?
"Eric Chippa Chauke from Orlando Pirates. With his sweet left foot. They were still playing in their Fruit Tree jersey. I was still a youngster. He was my favourite player.
"At Kaizer Chiefs, I liked Wagga Wagga Likoebe."
Which club is your favourite?
"Chiefs is my team. I was born in a house that owned a team that wore gold and black in Tembisa. So gold and black jerseys were stored there in that house."
Who was the most influential person in your career?
"It was the late Speeech Ndlovu. He was the kit manager of the 1998 Bafana Bafana World Cup squad. He installed football in me. He took over the very same Tembisa team that wore gold and black. I am who I am because of him."
Your break into topflight football, how did it happen?
"Through schools football. Fani Madida he came to our school Thuto Ke Maatla, to upgrade his Grade 12. I believe he wanted to go to University.
"That's where me and him started playing together. And he recommended me to Giant Blackpool, remember he was there as a loanee from Chiefs.
"In that Blackpool team, we had the late John Shoes Moshoeu, Gavin Lane, Andrew Ramsden, and Jurry Bantwana."
Who was your best friend in football?
"Geelbooi Masango. We played against each other in the OK League, which is now the National First Division."
What do you dislike about football?
"The approach of late, we saying we want to play our own brand football, but we always bring international football into the fold. This is what kills me. I'm really confused as a South African."
Who is your favourite player in South Africa?
"Relebohile Mofokeng. That is my wife's surname, though she is Lizzy Sikhosana now.
"I like the way the way he has blossomed, the way he is disciplined, and the way he plays the game. He doesn't play for the gallery. Whatever he does it's productive."
If you could join any club right now as a player, which club would it be?
"I'd go back to the club I never favoured. But with the same coach Jose Riveiro. I'm fond of this guy. I wish I could go back to play for Pirates under Riveiro."
