Chippa's winning run ended by the Citizens

Cape Town City rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Chippa United, who saw their four-game winning in the DStv Premiership come to an end.

City decided to start Luke Daniels and named Wayde Lekay on the bench following the loss to Richards Bay FC last week, whereas the Chilli Boys welcomed back fullback Ronald Pfumbidzai from suspension.

The Citizens almost took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes as Darwin Gonzalez struck the post from a smart attempt following a promising corner-kick.

It was all the host with the earlier promise and from yet another promising spell of play, midfielder Nodada brought a remarkable save from goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua with a cracking strike.

Those missed chance came to haunt the host as Chippa went ahead on the half-hour mark when Ronaldo Maarman finished off a well-worked one-touch move inside the six-yard area.

City went all out in search of the equaliser ahead of halftime and the closest they came was when a curling shot from Mduduzi Mdantsane outside the area came off the upright.

Chippa caretaker coach Morgan Mammila was the first to make a change before the second half and withdrew the goal-scorer Maarman to bring on Sirgio Kammies.

The Citizens maintained their dominant spell from the first half and a smart attempt from Lyle Lakay worked an equally smart stop from Kazapua.

City pushed relentlessly towards the closing stages and eventually levelled as substitute Khanyisa Mayo's effort was adjudged to have crossed the line.

Chippa struggled to regain the lead and with six minutes to go, the visitors trailed when Thamsanqa Mkhize charged onto a rebound from the post following Mpho Makola's free-kick and tapped in.

The home outfit managed to hold onto their narrow advantage following the closing minutes and ended up victorious.
