Nabi-less Chiefs advance to final

Kaizer Chiefs advanced to the final of the Home of Legends Cup after defeating Golden Arrows 2-0 on Saturday morning.

Bruce Bvuma, Zitha Kwinika, Pule Mmodi, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Ashley Du Preez made rare starts for the Amakhosi who didn't have coach Nasreddine Nabi available.

The Amakhosi were in the lead in just five minutes after a swift counter brought Mfundo Vilakazi on strike and the youngster needed no invitation to rattle the back of the net.

Mmodi looked to get one over his former team minutes later with a clever shot from decent proximity, but Nkosingiphile Gumede palmed.

Abafana Besthende regained momentum after a difficult opening and caused the Soweto giants a few issues through in particular Knox Mutizwa and Brandon Theron.

Two substitutions by the Amakhosi before the second half saw Happy Mashiane come in for Reeve Frosler before Dillon Solomons ran out for Bradley Cross.

Chiefs remained in control five minutes from resumption and got a second when Nkosingiphile Ngcobo's scorching drive gave Gumede no chance.

Still, the visitors refused to lose hope of a comeback but pressed relentless as Nqubeko Dlamini's powerful shot from a layoff put substitute goalkeeper Brandon Peterson to work.

Another second period entry in striker Ranga Chivaviro looked to reduce the tally with a dink from way out of the area after spotting the keeper off his line, but unfortunately missed target.

The Amakhosi were comfortable in the closing stages as the visitors targeted a late overhaul of sorts, but ended up seeing the men from Naturena to victory and a spot in the final.
