Itumeleng Khune and Jazzman Mahlakgane part ways

After five years of working together, the Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs captain will now head over to MSCSports, which also looks after the business interests of Gavin Hunt, Moeneeb Josephs and Tebogo Langerman.

Mahlakgane confirms the news to snl24.com/kickoff, saying it was a smooth severing of ties.

“The player has requested to be released from the stable and that’s what we did,” he says. “He has been very professional in handling it; he said he wanted to leave and try something new.

“We just happy that it all happened smoothly and amicably and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Mahlakgane was often criticised for failing to get the likes of Khune and Siphiwe Tshabalala the overseas moves that some felt they deserved.

But in a recent interview with KICK OFF Magazine he hit back, saying: “What is the point of sending a guy overseas if it is not the right fit, just so it looks good on your record?

“I am not interested in people who think I am a bad agent because my guys are not in some obscure league abroad. My boys are playing all the time, they are happy at their clubs, they earn well, they are taken care of and they are respected.”

And Mahlakgane adds that such is his relationship with his players that he and Khune will still have plenty of chats.

“Look, just because I won’t look after his affairs anymore doesn’t mean we won’t still talk. Khune is a great guy and I am grateful for the opportunity I had to work with him.”
