According to the player's representative, the reason the player is at The Village rather than anywhere else is because Chiefs is the only team that asked him to come and train with them.
Hlanti is currently a free agent following the sale of Bidvest Wits' status to Limpopo outfit Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, who recently released him via social media along with Thabang Monare.
"They asked him to come and train with them, and we also thought it was better for him to go to gym than to stay without a club you see," Sizwe Ntshangase explains to snl24.com/kickoff.
"In short, he is still training with Kaizer Chiefs, nothing else, there's no contract, there's no offer. The only agreement in place is for him to train. Going forward we will see what happens. Anything can still happen."
Ntshangase was asked if by training with the club it meant that Amakhosi will now have first option over other suitors to sign the 30-year-old should the club's FIFA transfer ban be lifted.
"I can't say yes or no. But for now what is important is for him to train. You must remember that Bafana Bafana is coming very soon. So it might happen that he receives a call-up," the agent responds.
"So training with such a big club is going to help him. That said, he would have trained with any other club if they contacted us and asked him to come for an assessment. It's a norm for teams to assess a player first if he is a free agent.
"So it was the same situation with us. Him training with Chiefs has got nothing to do with [waiting for] the appeal. Remember, this is not the first time something like this happens, the likes of Benni McCarthy used to train with the likes of Cape Town City but ended up at Pirates."
Another international-quality full-back became available this week after Thabo Matlaba confirmed his exit from Black Leopards.
