Sweet smell of money for ex-Chiefs defender

Teenage Hadebe has needed just six months to get another major contract in the Major League Soccer.

After having spent all his time as a designated player at Houston Dynamo, Hadebe is on to another money move after spending some time surviving relegation in the Turkish top league with Konyaspor.

The 28-year-old was in the money at Houston Dynamo, who he had joined after spending two years at another Turkish club, Yeni Malatyaspor.

According to the MLS, Hadebe's earnings were at a yearly guaranteed US1.288 million (approx. R23 million), which was minus performance bonuses and any earnings from any contracts with teams or their affiliates.

This pushed the Bulawayo-born defender into the top 80 ranks of top earners in the MLS with his annual earnings having risen from USD1.179 million (approx. R21 million) the previous season.

Both the MLS and his new employers FC Cincinnati announced his signing on Tuesday with his package remaining way above what top earners get in the Betway Premiership.

"FC Cincinnati have signed defender Teenage Hadebe to a contract through the 2025 season with an option for 2026, the club announced today.

"Additionally, FCC have traded their natural first round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft and a conditional $50,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM) to LA Galaxy in exchange for the Right of First Refusal for Hadebe," read a statement from the club.

Hadebe – who spent two years at Kaizer Chiefs – is in the Zimbabwe squad due to play two AFCON qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon.
