Khan: Sundowns can bank on Cardoso's experience

Mamelodi Sundowns having an experienced head coach like Miguel Cardoso is an advantage for CAF Champions League quarter-finals, according to former assistant coach Farouk Khan.

Sundowns will host Esperance in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinals at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday at 15:00.

Cardoso was in charge of Esperance when they defeated Sundowns 2-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals last season.

"League football and cup football are different, and Sundowns will be a different team tomorrow compared to when they faced Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup," Khan tells KickOff.

"For Sundowns, there has always been a focus on the Champions League. I believe they have the capability to win this match.

"They possess the quality, and they have a highly capable coach who has experience in this situation and has coached in this cup competition stage before. I am confident that Sundowns can overcome this challenge.

"Any of the eight remaining teams has the potential to win it; it ultimately depends on who wants it the most on the day.

"Club football is about minimizing mistakes and maximizing goal-scoring opportunities.

"We have two teams advancing in the Champions League, and I think South African football has made significant progress. We hope this reflects positively on other teams in the PSL.

"When you invest in the right structure and bring in the right technical staff, you increase the chances of having two South African teams in the final.

"And hopefully, they will both progress to the semifinals as well."
