Da Gama answers questions over relegation threat

Magesi head coach Owen Da Gama has responded to questions over the possibility of relegation after losing to Kaizer Chiefs - a 11th defeat of the season.

The Premiership newbies fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs courtesy of an Ashley du Preez goal in the second half at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

The loss is the third in their last five matches and is a significant dent to the sides's ambitions of staying in the top flight next season.

Magesi have just four wins to show for the season but importantly, two of those wins came in their last five matches under new coach Da Gama - a sign of progress for the Limpopo outfit.

Speaking to media after the loss to Chiefs, Da Gama insisted that despite being 15th on the log table, he is not thinking about relegation.

"I spoke with the owner, with regards to a player that I saw. And He had promised to take that to another level. So there is hope it shows that we are preparing [for another season in the Premiership]

"So we are right in the middle there.

"To be honest with you, we are not thinking of relegation. We are very positive and I think that is good within the team. We are positive about what we are doing and we are working tirelessly.

"It's the one thing that counted between us is that teams that have been five, ten years in the league, they have been fixing up. Every season they reinforce, they strengthen and unfortunately [for Magesi], this is the first season and it's always a tough season as you said, winning the cup (Carling Knockout) has made it even more difficult because of the mindset it gives players."

Magesi return to action on Tuesday, 11 March when they take on another side in the relegation dogfight in the form of Richards Bay.
