Al Ahly failed to get their hands on a third consecutive CAF Champions League title following a 2-0 defeat to Wydad Casablanca in the final on Monday evening.
Percy Tau lead the line in an attack that comprised of Ahmed Abdel Kader and Hussein El Shahat, as Wydad preferred Guy Mbenza and Ahmed El Hassouni up top.
The Moroccan giants had the perfect start on 15 minutes after a loose pass saw Zouhair Moutaraji take aim and fire into the top corner, giving goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy no chance.
Ahly looked for a quick response following a few minutes later from a corner-kick by Ali Maaloul, but Yasser Ibrahim headed the full-back's delivery well off target.
On the other hand, Mbenza nearly doubled Wydad's tally courtesy of a speculative shot from a promising area a moment later on but he went off target.

Ahly closed-in to the equaliser yet again with ten minutes to halftime through another ball from a corner by Maaloul, but Taher Mohamed on this occasion nodded wide.
Ahly's hopes of a comeback were dented two minutes into the second half as Wydad doubled their lead when Moutaraji reacted sharp to El Shenawy's spill and thumped home for his brace.
A double substitution a few minutes later from the Cairo Red Devils saw Mohamed Magdy Afsha replace El Shahat and Abdel Kader sacrificed for Mohamed Sherif.
The reinforcements injected some life in the middle of the second half and saw another headed attempt from Ibrahim following a set-play miss target.
Ahly pushed with ten minutes to go through a close-range shot from Sherif following a loose ball, but it was cleared off the line before goalkeeper Ahmed Tagnaouti thwarted Tau's path to goal.
Walid Regragui's men remained solid with Ahly piling numbers forward in the final seconds and wrestled victory and the Champions League crown.
