Billiat breaks silence on big return!

Khama Billiat has finally broken his silence on his big return to the Zimbabwe national team.

Last week, Billiat announced his availability for the national team once again, making a U-turn on his decision to retire from international football in November 2021.

This was almost immediately followed up by a new call-up to the Warriors, who are set to play 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon in the coming days.

The decision comes amid the former Kaizer Chiefs star's formidable return to the Zimbabwean top flight with Yadah FC, for whom he has already scored 10 goals and where he is the current joint-top goalscorer in the division despite his club languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Speaking from the Warriors camp ahead of their clash against Kenya on Friday, the 33-year-old said he was proud to wear the colours of his nation again.

"This call-up means a lot to me, to represent our great country, Zimbabwe against Kenya and Cameroon," Billiat said, according to Soccer24.

"This is very important to me, and I hope we'll do very well with our new coach. We're looking forward, he is a great man.

"It [the preparations] has been great so far, and we're feeling confident."

On working under new Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees, who previously worked as an education officer at SAFA, Billiat added: "He is a great man, I have spent some time with him, and we're getting along very well.

"The guys are also feeling confident and well-motivated. I think it's going to be a great journey."

Kenya head coach Engin Firat has also acknowledged Billiat's upcoming return against his side, stating: "You saw Zimbabwe has no squad problems, all players are fit, all of them are back.

"Not only this, even players who didn't come before, they come back, like Khama Billiat, who is a very good player, someone who stopped from retirement, and also other players with a new coach."
